My Review

When Melissa McCarthy plays fast food worker “Tammy” who looses her job, wrecks her car, and finds her husband with another woman, all in the same day, she decides it’s time to go on a road trip and it’s with her grandmother, portrayed by Susan Sarandon. Ben Falcone does a fair job in his directorial debut, even co-writing the screenplay with McCarthy (his wife). The pair turned out mediocre material which often relies on profanity and dirty jokes. As a result, the film’s full comedic potential went unrealized. This would be their first collaboration.

The talented cast alongside of McCarthy and Sarandon includes Allison Janney, Dan Aykroyd, Kathy Bates, Gary Cole, Mark Duplass, Toni Collette, Sandra Oh, and Nat Faxon. The somewhat watchable “Tammy” was popular in theatrical release for producers Will Ferrell and Melissa McCarthy, New Line Cinema, RatPac-Dune Entertainment, Gary Sanchez Productions, On The Day Productions, and Warner Bros. Pictures.

“Tammy” received two nominations for the Golden Raspberry Awards for Worst Actress (McCarthy) and Worst Supporting Actress (Sarandon). Filming took place mostly in North Carolina with a handful of scenes in Louisville, Kentucky, and Niagara Falls, New York.
