My Review

Some extremely poisonous South American spiders make their way into the United States and go on a murder spree in “Arachnophobia.” This surprisingly well constructed comedy-horror film received first class treatment from Frank Marshall in his first directorial job. His usual role as producer in such films as “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981) gave him the experience to instill top-rate production values into a project. The excellent screenplay was penned by Wesley Strick and Don Jakoby, who conceived the story with Al Williams.

The stars of the show include Jeff Daniels, Julian Sands, Harley Jane Kozak, John Goodman, Brian McNamara, James Handy, Peter Jason, Mary Carver, Kathy Kinney, Stuart Pankin, and Henry Jones and Frances Bay as Dr. and Mrs. Metcalf. The watchable thriller “Arachnophobia” was a modest hit at the box office for producer Kathleen Kennedy, Hollywood Pictures, Amblin Entertainment, Tangled Web Productions, Buena Vista Pictures Distribution, and The Walt Disney Company. The term “arachnophobia” is defined as an extreme or irrational fear of spiders.
