Leonardo DiCaprio plays a professional thief who steals information by penetrating the subconscious mind of his victims in the science fiction thriller “Inception.” Certain business interests offer to have his criminal history expunged as payment for implanting an idea into a target’s mind. The heavy drama proceeds from there in this superbly formulated movie from director-screenwriter Christopher Nolan (“The Dark Knight” trilogy 2005-2012).
The talented group of actors appearing with DiCaprio includes Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger, Michael Caine, Marion Cotillard, Elliot Page, Lukas Haas, and Pete Postlethwaite. The watchable “Inception” was the fourth highest grossing film of 2010 for producers Emma Thomas and Christopher Nolan, Legendary Pictures, Syncopy Inc., and Warner Bros. Pictures.
It was nominated for eight Academy Awards, winning four: Best Cinematography (Wally Pfister), Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Visual Effects. Non-winners include Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Art Direction, and Best Original Score (Hans Zimmer). “Inception” is a fast moving film with a running time of 148 minutes, or so Nolan and Thomas would have you think.
