“80 for Brady” is a sports comedy telling the story of four lifelong friends, who are big New England Patriots and Tom Brady fans, traveling from Boston to Houston in 2017 to view Super Bowl LI between the Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons. Director Kyle Marvin did an expert job directing the celebrity-laden cast, producing a good balance of laughs and serious drama. The excellent screenplay was penned by Sarah Haskins and Emily Halpern.
The four principals are played by Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno, and Sally Field. All but Tomlin are Oscar winners, and the professionalism shows. They applied their considerable theatrical skills to their respective role. The supporting cast includes Harry Hamlin, Alex Moffat, Rob Corddry, Bob Balaban, Jimmy O. Yang, Sara Gilbert, Sally Kirkland, Andy Richter, Patton Oswalt, and Tom Brady as himself.
“80 for Brady” was a modest hit at the box office for producer Tom Brady, 199 Productions, Fifth Season, Watch This Ready, and Paramount Pictures. On February 1, 2023, two days before the film’s release, Brady announced his retirement after 23 seasons in the NFL.
