Elvis Has Left the Building (2004)

My Review

“Elvis Has Left the Building” is a black comedy film about a cosmetics saleswoman who accidentally kills several Elvis Presley impersonators while at a convention in Las Vegas. She subsequently goes on the run from the FBI, with wacky comedy proceeding from there. Director Joel Zwick (“My Big Fat Greek Wedding” 2002) put together an entertaining comedy with plenty of laugh-filled scenes. The superior script was penned by Mitchell Ganem and Adam-Michael Garber.

The star of the show is Kim Basinger as salesperson Harmony Jones. She fits the bill perfectly and delivers a believable performance as the lead character. Co-stars include John Corbett, Annie Potts, Sean Astin, Mike Starr, Phil Lewis, Denise Richards, with cameo appearances by Pat Morita, Richard Kind, Tom Hanks, and Angie Dickinson as Basinger’s mum. This is Dickinson’s final film role to date, in a motion picture career which began in 1954 with an uncredited part in “Lucky Me,” a musical comedy from Warner Bros. starring Doris Day and Bob Cummings.

The very watchable “Elvis Has Left the Building” received only limited theatrical release in 2004 for Capitol Films, Equity Pictures Medienfonds GmbH & Co. Filmproduktions, KG Productions, and Lionsgate Films.
