My Review

“Hollywood Cavalcade” is a drama film starring Alice Faye as an actress making her way in the early days of Hollywood, from silent movies to the advent of “talking pictures.” Director Irving Cummings basically made this project a salute to silent film comedies. The well written screenplay was penned by Ernest Pascal, from the story by Hilary Lynn and Brown Holmes.

The co-stars with Alice Faye includes Don Ameche, Alan Curtis, Stuart Erwin, J. Edward Bomberg, Donald Meek, along with Buster Keaton, Al Jolson, and Mack Sennett as themselves. Rin Tin Tin Jr. appeared as his father Rin Tin Tin. Any silent film subject would not be the same without an appearance by the Keystone Cops, played by Jed Prouty, Eddie Collins, Hank Mann, Snub Pollard, James Finlayson, and Heinie Conklin. Darryl F. Zanuck and 20th Century Fox produced this watchable motion picture, filmed in Technicolor.
