“Eden” is the true story of several European families who abandon modern society in the 1930’s for an isolated life in the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador. The utopian dream rapidly devolves into a violent power struggle, vividly depicted by director Ron Howard (“Hillbilly Elegy” 2020). The excellent screenplay was written by Noah Pink, who developed the story with Howard. This is darker subject matter than Ronnie usually handles, and he does quite well at the helm of a project that reminds us of “Lord of the Flies” (1963 & 1990 films).
The cast outdo themselves in this riveting drama, including Jude Law, Vanessa Kirby, Daniel Bruhl, Sydney Sweeney, Vanessa Kirby, Richard Roxburgh, Toby Wallace, Felix Kammerer, and Ana de Armas as the Baroness. The watchable “Eden” was a big flop at the box office for producers Ron Howard and Brian Glazer, Imagine Entertainment, AGC Studios, Library Pictures International, Median Productions, and Vertical Distribution Co.
