My Review

“High School Musical” tells the story of the captain of the high school basketball team and his academically gifted girl friend audition together for the school musical, causing splits in the school’s cliques. Director Kenny Ortega (“Hocus Pocus” 1993) and teleplay writer Peter Barsocchini put together a lively made-for-television musical which fits right into the Disney Channel’s pristine programming. David Lawrence composed the music and Ortega handled the choreography with Charles Kaplow and Bonnie Story. The trio won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Choreography.

The stars of the show are Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens as the perfect couple. They have both gone on to successful show business careers. Co-stars include Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, Lucas Grabeel, Alyson Reed, Monique Coleman, Bart Johnson, Olesya Rulin, Chris Warren Jr., and Ryne Sanborn. The watchable “High School Musical” was first aired on the Disney Channel in January, 2006. Sequels include “High School Musical 2” (2007), “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” (2008), and “Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventures” (2011).
