My Review

“Secondhand Lions” is a drama-comedy movie in which a 14-year-old is sent by his mother to visit his two eccentric great-uncles for the summer. The trio bonds while learning something about each other and their differing personalities, including the pet lion. Director-screenwriter Tim McCanlies put together a wholesome and watchable film for the entire family to enjoy together. The picture has great production values, a consistent storyline, and good performances.

The cast includes Haley Joel Osment as the nephew, Robert Duvall and Michael Caine as the uncles, Kyra Sedgwick as his mother, Eric Balfour, Josh Lucas, Michael O’Neill, Christian Kane, Mitchell Musso, and Jennifer Stone. The entertaining “Secondhand Lions” was a modest hit at the box office for Digital Domain and New Line Cinema. It was filmed in and around Austin, Texas.
