Plaza Suite (1971)

My Review

“Plaza Suite” is a Neil Simon play adapted to the movies, telling three separate stories with an all-star cast. All director Arthur Hiller (“The Out-of-Towners” 1970) had to do was go on autopilot to assemble an entertaining film, which was exactly what he did. Neil Simon himself penned the screenplay, which basically was the script from the 1968 play about visitors to the posh Plaza Hotel in New York City.

The cast includes Walter Matthau as the male lead in all three segments, Maureen Stapleton in the first, Barbara Harris in the second, and Lee Grant in the third and final act. Co-stars include Louise Sorel, Jenny Sullivan, and Alan North. The watchable and witty “Plaza Suite” was successful at the box office for producer Howard W. Koch and Paramount Pictures.
