My Review

“Murder in Coweta County” is a made-for-television crime drama starring Johnny Cash as a county sheriff pursuing a wealthy landowner, played by Andy Griffith, whom the sheriff suspects of murder and other wrong-doings. Director Gary Nelson put together an absorbing movie from a good teleplay by Dennis Nemic, adapted from the 1976 book by Margaret Anne Barnes, based on true events in 1948 in Georgia’s Coweta County.

It’s fun to see major show business personalities like Andy Griffith and Johnny Cash starring in a drama like this. The supporting cast members also did a good job including Earl Hindman, Robert Schenkkan, Jo Henderson, Daniel Keyes, Brent Jennings, J. Don Ferguson, and June Carter Cash (wife of Johnny Cash). The watchable “Murder in Coweta County” was first aired on CBS in February, 1983, from Telecom Entertainment Inc. and The International Picture Show Company.
