“David” is an animated film telling the true story of Israel’s King David (1040-970 BC) from his humble beginnings as a shepherd boy, his famous battle against the giant Goliath, his anointing as king by the prophet-judge Samuel, his struggles with King Saul, and eventual ascension to the throne. Directors-screenwriters Brent Dawes and Phil Cunningham put together a film with intelligent dialogue, colorful animation, and top-notch musical numbers by Joseph Trapanese.
The voice cast includes Phil Wickham as David, Miri Mesika as his mother, Adam Michael Gold as Saul, Mark Jacobson as Jonathan, Brandon Engman as young David, and Kamran Nikhad as Goliath. The watchable “David,” faithful to the Biblical account, was successful this year at the box office for Sunrise Animation Studios, Slingshot Productions, 2521 Entertainment, and Angel Studios.
