“Mercy” is a futuristic science fiction crime drama where an LAPD detective is accused of murdering his wife. He goes on trial before an AI judge, where he has ninety minutes to prove his innocence or face immediate execution. Director Timur Bekmambetov (“Wanted” 2008) put together an exciting futuristic drama from a well written screenplay by Marco van Belle. Although a bit formulaic, the movie holds the audience’s attention for the entire one hundred minute running time.
The cast is headed by Chris Pratt as Det. Chris Raven and Rebecca Ferguson as AI Judge Maddox, perfect in these roles. Co-stars include Annabelle Wallis, Kali Reis, Chris Sullivan, and Kylie Rogers. The watchable “Mercy” was not terribly successful at the box office due to some 400 theater closures caused by the January, 2026, North America winter storm. This affected the bottom line for Atlas Entertainment, Amazon MGM Studios, and Sony Pictures Releasing. It was filmed entirely in Los Angeles, California.
