“I Love You, Man” is a comedy film about a friendless man trying to find a best man for his rapidly-approaching wedding. Director John Hamburg (“Along Came Polly” 2004) put together an uneven “bromantic” comedy with frequent comedic lines misfiring. Blame the mediocre screenplay he co-wrote with Larry Levin, who developed the story. The entertainment value of this picture is hit-or-miss.
The film does have a talented cast including Paul Rudd (in the lead role), Jason Segel, Rashida Jones (daughter of Quincy Jones), Andy Samberg, J. K. Simmons, Jane Curtin, Jon Favreau, Jaime Pressly, Aziz Ansari, and Matt Walsh as an impatient golfer. The so-so “I Love You, Man” was modestly successful at the box office for DreamWorks Pictures, The Montecito Picture Company, and Paramount Pictures.
