My Review

“The Death of Stalin” is a black comedy about the power struggle among Soviet Politburo members following the death of Joseph Stalin in 1953. Director Armando Iannucci put together an engrossing and entertaining film with good production values, memorable performances, and witty dialogue from the screenplay he co-wrote with David Schneider, Ian Martin, and Peter Fellows. It was adapted from the 2010 novel of the same name by Fabian Nury.

The cast is headed by Steve Buscemi as Nikita Khruschev, better than you expect him to be. Co-stars include Michael Palin, Jeffrey Tambor, Diana Quick, Jason Isaacs, Rupert Friend, Paddy Considine, and Adrian McLoughlin as Joe Stalin. The watchable political satire and black comedy “The Death of Stalin” was well received in art house cinemas around the world for France 3 Cinema, Gaumont, France Televisions, Title Media, and Entertainment One Films. It was filmed in Ukraine and United Kingdom.
