Lucy (2014)

My Review

“Lucy” is a science fiction film about a woman who accidentally ingests very powerful chemicals and begins to experience superhuman strength and telepathic powers. Director-screenwriter Luc Besson developed a movie which has some downright silly logic to the storyline, and seems to almost be an unintended satire on superhero pictures. The superior acting skills of star Scarlett Johansson in the title role gives her the ability to pull things off and give the project some plausibility. At any rate, there are loads of action scenes, which do cover up a multitude of cinematic sins.

Co-stars include Morgan Freeman, Choi Min-sik, Amr Waked, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Pilou Asbaek, and Lio Tipton as Caroline. The somewhat watchable and laughable “Lucy” (not related to “I Love Lucy”) was a big hit at the box office for EuropaCorp, TF1 Films Production, Canal+, and Cine+. It was filmed primarily in Paris, France, and Taipei, Taiwan.
