Red (2010)

My Review

Bruce Willis plays a former spy who reunites with his old team to capture an assassin who is out to kill him in “Red.” German director Robert Schwentke (“The Time Traveler’s Wife” 2009) put together a modestly entertaining action-comedy film from a so-so screenplay by Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber. The over-all production values were not top-notch, an especially bad fit considering the stellar cast.

The stars of the show include Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich, Karl Urban, Mary-Louise Parker, Brian Cox, Richard Dreyfuss, Ernest Borgnine, James Remar, Rebecca Pidgeon, and Julian McMahon as the Vice President of the United States. The watchable “Red” was popular at the box office for Di Bonaventura Pictures and Summit Entertainment. It was filmed in Toronto, Canada, and New Orleans, Louisiana. Red stands for “retired, extremely dangerous.” A sequel called “Red 2” was released in 2013 with much of the same cast, and only modestly successful.
