The Lake House (2006)

My Review

“The Lake House” is a fantasy romance movie about a relationship that develops between a male architect who lived in his lake house in 2004 and a woman doctor living there in 2006. They are only able to communicate by leaving letters to each other in the house’s mailbox. They begin to fall in love, and the big question soon comes up: Can they ever be together in the same time and space? Argentine director Alejandro Agresti somehow made this far-fetched and even ridiculous premise seem believable. Some credit goes to a top rate script by David Auburn, adapted from a 2000 South Korean film “Il Mare.”

Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves head the cast as the time-separated pair. They first appeared together in “Speed,” a very different film released in 1994. Co-stars include Christopher Plummer, Dylan Walsh, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Willeke van Ammelrooy, and Lynn Collins. The watchable “The Lake House” was a hit at the box office for Village Roadshow Pictures, Vertigo Entertainment, Sidus Pictures, and Warner Bros. Pictures. It was filmed in and around Chicago, Illinois.
