My Review

The Best Picture of 2021 is….”CODA.” This is the story of a high school age woman, a child of deaf adults (CODA) and the only hearing member of her family, who attempts to help her father’s struggling fishing business while pursing her aspirations to become a singer. Director-screenwriter Sian Heder did an excellent job in this film with top rate production values, outstanding performances, good character development, and a wonderful script.

The cast includes Emilia Jones as the CODA daughter, Marlee Matlin and Tony Kotsur as her parents, Eugenio Derbez as her music instructor, Daniel Durant as her brother, Amy Forsyth, Sarah Clarke, Ferdia Walsh-Peelo, Kevin Chapman, and Rebecca Gibel. The very watchable “CODA” was mostly released through streaming services for Pathe, Vendome Pictures, and Apple Original Films. It was filmed in Gloucester, Massachusetts. “CODA” was nominated for and won three Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor (Kotsur).
