Holes (2003)

My Review

“Holes” is a comedy-drama movie about a boy wrongly convicted of theft and sent to a juvenile detention camp in Texas. A crazed warden forces the boys to dig holes in a nearby lakebed looking for buried treasure. The comedy and drama proceeds from there, capably directed by Andrew Davis (“Chain Reaction” 1996) and written by Louis Sachar. It was adapted from the 1998 young adult novel by Sachar.

The cast includes Shia LaBeouf in this movie debut as the framed young prisoner, Sigourney Weaver as the warden, Jon Voight, Tim Blake Nelson, Patricia Arquette, Eartha Kitt, Henry Winkler, Rick Fox, Dule Hill, and Khleo Thomas as Hector. The watchable “Holes” was popular at the box office for Walt Disney Pictures, Walden Media, Phoenix Pictures, Buena Vista Pictures Distribution, and The Walt Disney Company. It was filmed in Lancaster, Ridgecrest, Santa Clarita, and Disney Golden Oak Ranch in Newhall, California.
