Open Range (2003)

My Review

“Open Range” is a western movie about free-range cattlemen in 1880’s Montana who come into conflict with a corrupt land baron. Director Kevin Costner (“Dances with Wolves” 1990) put together a high quality horse opera with excellent production values, great writing by Craig Storper, good character development paired with outstanding performances, and stunning scenery filmed on location in Alberta, Canada, captured on film by cinematographer J. Michael Muro.

The cast includes Kevin Costner, Robert Duvall, Annette Bening, Michael Gambon, Michael Jeter, Diego Luna, James Russo, Kim Coates, and Peter MacNeill as Mack. The very watchable “Open Range” was a box office sensation for producer Kevin Costner, Touchstone Pictures, Beacon Communications, Tig Productions, Buena Vista Pictures Distribution, and The Walt Disney Company.
