The Place Beyond the Pines (2012)

My Review

“The Place Beyond the Pines” is a crime drama about a motorcyclist who turns to bank robbery to support his family, clashing with a new cop, before the consequences impact their sons fifteen years later. Director Derek Cianfrance does a marvelous job of weaving three storylines together in one film, with good production values, acceptable performances, and fair writing in a script he co-wrote with Ben Coccio and Darius Marder.

The cast includes Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, Eva Mendes, Ray Liotta, Mahershala Ali, Dane DeHaan, Emory Cohen, Rose Byrne, Bruce Greenwood, Ben Mendelsohn, Harris Yulin, Olga Merediz, and Robert Clohessy as the police chief. The watchable “The Place Beyond the Pines” was a modest hit at the box office for Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, Electric City Entertainment, Verisimilitude, and Focus Features. It was filmed in Schenectady, New York.
