Yours, Mine and Ours (1968)

My Review

Henry Fonda and Lucille Ball play recently widowed people who consider getting married, hindered only by their large families (ten children from him and eight from her) in “Yours, Mine and Ours.” Director Melville Shavelson (“Cast a Giant Shadow” 1966) put together an entertaining, albeit predictable, family comedy-drama. He co-wrote the screenplay with Mort Lachman, from a story conceived by Bob Carroll Jr. and Madelyn Davis, who worked with Ball on “I Love Lucy” in the 1950’s.

The supporting cast includes Van Johnson, Tom Bosley, Ben Murphy, Tim Matheson, Morgan Brittany, Tracy Nelson, Mitch Vogel, and Eric Shea. The watchable “Yours, Mine and Ours” was the ninth highest grossing film of 1968 for Desilu Productions, Walden Productions, and United Artists. It was filmed on location in Pasadena, Alameda, and San Francisco, as well as at Desilu Productions in Hollywood, just before their sale to Paramount Pictures in 1967. A remake of the same name was released in 2005 starring Dennis Quaid and Rene Russo.
