My Review

Tom Hanks plays a hypochondriac who is convinced he dying and decides go out in style by throwing himself into a volcano. Director-screenwriter John Patrick Shanley put together quite a kooky romantic absurdist comedy which has a shacky premise but somehow works. And this very entertaining picture is his first time in the director’s chair. Quite a big screen debut!

The supporting cast includes Meg Ryan, Lloyd Bridges, Robert Stack, Abe Vigoda, Dan Hedaya, Ossie Davis, Amanda Plummer, Nathan Lane, Carol Kane, and Barry McGovern as a luggage salesman. The watchable “Joe Versus the Volcano” was a modest hit at the box office for Amblin Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures. It was filmed at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank and other spots around Los Angeles County as well as a few shots on Oahu, Hawaii, and Manhattan, New York.
