Naomi Watts turns in a strong performance as Diana, the troubled Princess of Wales, in the drama film “Diana.” Director Oliver Hirschbiegel created an interesting biopic which concentrated on the last two years of Diana’s life and her secret relationship with Pakistani surgeon Hasnat Khan. The adequate screenplay was written by Stephen Jeffreys, adapted from the 2001 book “Diana: Her Last Love” by Kate Snell.
The supporting cast includes Naveen Andrews as Dr. Khan, Cas Anvar as Dodi Fayed, Laurence Belcher as Prince William, Harry Holland as Prince Harry, Douglas Hodge as her butler, Charles Edwards as her private secretary, with Geraldine James, Mary Stockley, and Juliet Stevenson in various supporting roles.
The watchable “Diana” was panned by critics and only a modest success at the box office for Ecosse Films, Filmgate Films, Scope Pictures, MP Film, Metrodome Distribution, and Entertainment One. Naomi Watts was nominated for a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actress.
