Where the Crawdads Sing (2022)

My Review

“Where the Crawdads Sing” is an engrossing crime drama about a young woman who was abandoned as a child, grew up alone in the North Carolina swamps, only to find herself accused of murder. Director Olivia Newman (“First Match” 2018) did an outstanding job of organizing this movie, only her second feature length motion picture. Screenwriter Lucy Alibar penned an excellent screenplay adapted from the 2018 novel by Delia Owens.

The lead role was well-filled by Daisy Edgar-Jones, who delivered a compelling performance as Catherine Clark. Co-stars include Taylor John Smith, Harris Dickinson, Michael Hyatt, Garrett Dillahunt, Ahna O’Reilly, and David Strathairn as Kya’s attorney. The watchable “Where the Crawdads Sing” was a big hit at the box office for producer Reese Witherspoon, Columbia Pictures, HarperCollins Publishers, Hello Sunshine, 3000 Pictures, and Sony Pictures Releasing. It was filmed in Louisiana.
