Beverly Hills Cop II (1987)

My Review

Two years after his initial visit to Southern California, Detroit police detective Axel Foley returns to help his friends investigate a series of high-valued heists in “Beverly Hills Cop II.” Director Tony Scott (“Top Gun” 1986) does a good job of developing a quality sequel starring Eddie Murphy and the same core of actors. The well written screenplay by Larry Ferguson and Warren Skaaren was developed from a story by Murphy and Robert D. Wachs.

The stars of the show include Eddie Murphy, Judge Reinhold, Ronny Cox, John Ashton, Jurgen Prochnow, Bridgett Nielsen, Dean Stockwell, Gil Hill, Tommy “Tiny” Lister, John Hostetter, Robert Pastorelli, Chris Rock, and Hugh Hefner in a cameo as himself. The watchable “Beverly Hills Cop II” was the third highest grossing film of 1987 for producer Jerry Bruckheimer, Eddie Murphy Productions, and Paramount Pictures.

It received one Oscar nod for Best Original Song “Shakedown,” performed by Bob Seger, music by Harold Faltermeyer and Keith Forsey, lyrics by Faltermeyer, Forsey, Seger. “BH 2” was filmed throughout Los Angeles County. The next sequel in the franchise is “Beverly Hills Cop III” (1994).
