My Review

“Reversal of Fortune” is a riveting legal drama telling the true story of socialite Claus von Bulow’s conviction of attempted murder of his wife who has fallen into a coma. He convinces Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz to help him on his appeal of the conviction. Sparks fly in this engrossing thriller with expert direction by Barbet Schroder from an excellent screenplay by Nicholas Kazan. It was adapted from Dershowitz’s own 1985 book “Reversal of Fortune: Inside the von Bulow Case.”

The cast turns in some humdinger performances, especially Jeremy Irons as Claus von Bulow, Ron Silver as Dershowitz, and Glenn Close as Sunny von Bulow. Co-stars include Annabella Sciorra, Fisher Stevens, Uta Hagen, Jack Gilpin, Christine Baranski, Julie Hagerty, Bill Camp, Felicity Huffman, Stephen Miller, and Lisa Gay Hamilton. The very watchable “Reversal of Fortune” was successful in theatrical release for producer Oliver Stone, Reversal Film, Sovereign Pictures, and Warner Bros. Pictures. Jeremy Irons won the film’s sole Academy Award for Best Actor, with nominations for director and screenplay. It was filmed in Rhode Island, New York, and New Jersey.
