My Review

“The Day Reagan Was Shot” is a made-for-television movie dramatizing the chaotic aftermath of the March 30, 1981, assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan. Director-screenwriter Cyrus Nowrasteh expertly covered the range of factors including cabinet infighting, power vacuum caused by a missing Vice President, the resulting constitutional crisis, Secretary of State Alexander Haig’s claim to be “in control,” and more.

The outstanding cast includes Richard Crenna as Ronald Reagan, Holland Taylor as Nancy Reagan, Richard Dreyfuss as Al Haig, Colm Feore as Caspar Weinberger, Michael Murphy as Michael Deaver, Kenneth Walsh as James Baker, Leon Pownall as Ed Meese, Michael Greene as George Bush, John Connolly as James Brady, Christian Lloyd as John Hinkley Jr., Oliver Dennis as David Gergen, and Angela Gei as Sarah Brady.

The watchable “The Day Reagan Was Shot” was first aired on the Showtime cable network on Dec. 9, 2001, from executive producer Oliver Stone, Paramount Television, and Showtime Networks. It was filmed in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Richard Dreyfuss won the Satellite Award for Best Actor in a Miniseries or Television Film.
