“Capone” is a biopic about the last year of gangster Al Capone’s life. He is just released from prison and struggles to recall where he hid ten million dollars in cash, but easily remembers his violent past, which seems to be the bulk of the movie. Director-screenwriter Josh Trank (“Fantastic Four” 2015) did a terrible job on this project, managing to create a film with an unorganized plot, a boring storyline, non-existent production values, and forgettable performances.
At the top of the cast is English actor Tom Hardy as the Chicago mobster who lived 1899-1947. Hardy seems to be attempting the method acting version of the Mafia boss, catering to art house cinema attendees. Co-stars include Linda Cardellini, Kathrine Narducci, Matt Dillon, Kyle MacLachlan, Noel Fisher, Jack Lowden, Al Sapienza, and Neal Brennan.
The unwatchable “Capone” was released digitally due to the Covid19 pandemic in March, 2020, therefore receiving very few box office receipts, except for some foreign markets. So it made very little money for Bron Studios, Endeavor Content, Creative Wealth Media, AI Film Entertainment, Addictive Pictures, Vertical Entertainment, and Redbox Entertainment. It was filmed in New Orleans, Louisiana.
