“House of Gucci” is a biographical crime drama centered around the Gucci family of the Italian fashion industry. It follows Patrizia and Maurizio Gucci and their attempt to gain control of the Gucci fashion brand from other members of the family. Director Ridley Scott (“Alien” 1979) created an engrossing and captivating film with not a dull moment in the 158 minute running time, featuring outstanding production values, memorable performances, and great writing. The marvelous screenplay was written by Becky Johnston and Roberto Bentivegna, adapted from “House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed” by Sara Gay Forden, published in 2001.
The cast is headed by Lady Gaga and Adam Driver as the Gucci’s, Jeremy Irons as his father, Al Pacino as Uncle Aldo, Jaret Leto as cousin Paolo, Jack Huston, Salma Hayek, Camille Cottin, Reeve Carney, and Madalina Diana Ghenea as Sophia Loren. The very watchable “House of Gucci” was a hit at the box office for producers Ridley Scott and Giannina Facio Scott, Bron Creative, Scott Free Productions, United Artists Releasing, and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. It was filmed entirely on location in Italy.
“House of Gucci” received one Oscar nod for Best Makeup and Hairstyling. Also one win for the Golden Raspberry Awards for Worst Supporting Actor (Leto) and one nomination for Worst Screen Combo for “Jaret Leto & Either His 17-pound Latex Face, His Geeky Clothes, or His Ridiculous Accent.”
