My Review

The superhero genre storylines appear to be growing thin with “Eternals,” the 26th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In this film, ten superheroes named Eternals come out of thousands of years of hiding to battle their longtime rivals, the Deviants, for control of earth. Director Chloe Zhao (“Nomadland” 2020), who also co-wrote the screenplay with three others, has given the audience too many characters to deal with, as well as a convoluted storyline. The film is boring and monotonous, with a plot viewers cannot sing their teeth into. This makes for a very long 156 minute running time.

Angelina Jolie and Selma Hayek are the only familiar faces in the cast which includes Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Brian Tyree Henry, and Bill Skarsgard as the voice of Kro. The unwatchable “Eternals” was a big disappointment at the box office for producer Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, and The Walt Disney Company. It was filmed in London, Los Angeles, and the Canary Islands. No sequel is planned, but some characters in “Eternals” could pop up in future Marvel Studios motion pictures.
