Cruella (2021)

My Review

Emma Stone delivered a tour de force performance as Cruella de Vil in the comedy-drama “Cruella.” The character of Cruella followed a bit of a different storyline than the 1956 novel by Dodie Smith and the 1961 Disney film “One Hundred and One Dalmatians.”

There was also quite a “catfight” between Stone’s de Vil and Emma Thompson’s Baroness von Hellman. The two Oscar-winning actors did not disappoint. Director Craig Gillespie (“I, Tonya” 2017) and screenwriters Dana Fox and Tony McNamara did a good job of balancing comedy and drama.

Co-stars include Joel Fry, Paul Walter Hauser, Emily Beecham, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Mark Strong, and John McCrea. The watchable “Cruella” was a solid hit at the box office for Walt Disney Pictures, Marc Platt Productions, Gunn Films, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, and The Walt Disney Company.

“Cruella” won one Academy Award for Best Costume Design, and one nomination for Best Makeup and Hairstyling. It was filmed on location in England, UK.
