My Review

“When in Rome” is a romantic comedy film about a New York woman who flies to Rome to attend her sister’s wedding, only to find a romance of her own. She soon realizes the relationship is on shaky ground, with the comedy and drama proceeding from there. Director Mark Steven Johnson (“Ghost Rider” 2007) creates a movie which is itself on shaky ground with sloppy directing, lackluster production values, and bad writing. The mediocre screenplay was penned by David Diamond and David Weissman.

The movie is also hampered due to abysmal performances by the stellar cast, which includes Kristen Bell, Josh Duhamel, Peggy Lipton, Danny DeVito, Angelica Huston, Don Johnson, Jon Heder, Dax Shepherd, Will Arnett, Shaquille O’Neal, Alexis Dziena, Luca Calvani, Lee Pace, and Bobby Moynihan. “When in Rome” was a box office bomb for Touchstone Pictures and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It was filmed in New York City and Los Angeles, with only a handful of scenes shot in Roma.
