Smokey and the Bandit II (1980)

My Review

“Smokey and the Bandit II” follows Bandit and Snowman as they transport a pregnant elephant from Florida to Texas in just three days. Director Hal Needham (“Smokey and the Bandit” 1977) gives this sequel the same flavor as the original, with help from screenwriters Jerry Belson and Brock Yates, and the story by Michael Kane.

The cast includes Burt Reynolds as Bandit, Jackie Gleason as Sheriff Buford T. Justice, Jerry Reed as Snowman, Dom DeLuise as Dr. Carlucci, Sally Field as Carrie the Frog, Pat McCormack as Big Enos, Paul Williams as Little Enos, David Huddleston as John Conn, Mike Henry as Junior, Brenda Lee as the Nice Lady, Mel Tillis as the fairground owner, Terry Bradshaw as Terry Bradshaw, Chuck Yeager as a party guest, the Statler Brothers as themselves, and John Anderson as The Governor.

The watchable “Smokey and the Bandit II” was the eighth highest grossing film of 1980 for Rastar and Universal Pictures. A sequel was released in 1983 called “Smokey and the Bandit Part 3” starring Jackie Gleason and Jerry Reed, featuring Burt Reynolds in a cameo appearance.
