Greta Garbo speaks and holds the audience in her hand starring as “Camille.” The story follows a Parisian courtesan who must choose between a young man who loves her and an older man who wants her, even as her health begins to fail. Drama unfolds in spades as Garbo’s charisma floods the movie screen. Her captivating presence in cinema has not been matched before or since.

Co-stars include Robert Taylor as her boyfriend, Henry Daniell as the Baron, Lionel Barrymore, Elizabeth Allan, Laura Hope Crews, Jessie Ralph, Lenore Ulric, and Rex O’Malley. “Camille” was popular at the box office for director George Cukor, producer Irving Thalberg, and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. It was filmed at MGM Studios in Culver City.
