My Review

The kidnapping of John Paul Getty III in 1973 is the subject of “All the Money in the World” from producer-director Ridley Scott (“Alien” 1979). The project ran into big problems when, one month from its scheduled release in November, 2017, Scott fired star Kevin Spacey due to harassment and assault allegations.

Scott immediately hired Christopher Plummer to replace Spacey as billionaire J. Paul Getty. All scenes involving Spacey were reshot with Plummer in a speedy ten days, completed on Nov. 29, with the completed film on schedule to premiere at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills on Dec. 25, 2017. Plummer turned in an outstanding performance, especially considering the short amount of time he had to familiarize himself with the material. He was nominated for the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his efforts.

Co-stars include Michelle Williams as Gail Harris Getty, Charlie Plummer (no relation to the elder Plummer) as John Paul Getty III, Mark Wahlberg as a Getty advisor, Timothy Hutton as the Getty attorney, Clive Wood as the butler, and Stacy Martin as Getty’s secretary. The watchable “All the Money in the World” was a box office bomb for Scott Free Productions, TriStar Pictures, and Sony Pictures Releasing. It was filmed in Italy, Jordan, and England.
