My Review

“The Tribes of Palos Verdes” is a coming-of-age drama film about a couple who move from Michigan to affluent Palos Verdes in coastal Los Angeles with their two teenagers. The usual teenage drama is well handled by directors Emmet Malloy and Brendan Malloy and producer-screenwriter Karen Croner, in this interesting movie with a beginning, middle, and end in the story-telling style of old Hollywood.

The cast includes Maika Monroe and Cody Fern as the sister-and-brother twins, Jennifer Garner and Justin Kirk as the parents, Elizabeth Rohm, Goran Visnjic, Alicia Silverstone, Milo Gibson (son of Mel Gibson), and Joely Fisher (daughter of Eddie Fisher and Connie Stevens). The watchable “The Tribes of Palos Verdes” was a flop at the box office for The Mark Gordon Company, The Firm, and IFC Films. It was filmed in the South Bay section of Los Angeles – Rancho Palos Verdes, Palos Verdes Estates, Redondo Beach, and San Pedro.
