Young Washington (2026)

My Review

“Young Washington” is an historical drama centered on the early life of George Washington, focusing on his role as a colonial officer in the French and Indian War (1753-1755). He was an officer in the Virginia colonial militia, and fought on the British side. Director Jon Erwin (“I Can Only Imagine” 2018) provided accurate historic details and excellent production values to the film. He co-wrote the screenplay with Tom Provost and Diederick Hoogstraten.

William Franklyn-Miller turns in a layered performance as America’s first president as a young man. The talented cast includes Kelsey Grammar, Mary-Louise Parker, Ben Kingsley, Andy Serkis, Joel Smallbone, Mia Rogers, Jonno Davies, and Michael Benz. The watchable “Young Washington” came in third at the box office on opening weekend for producer Jon Erwin, Wonder Project, and Angel Studios. It was filmed in Virginia and Ireland. A sequel called “1776” is in pre-production.
