Downsizing (2017)

My Review

“Downsizing” is a comedy-drama science fiction film about a couple who decide to undergo a new popular procedure to shrink themselves to five inches tall in order to save money and to live in a luxury community. However, complications arise when the wife backs out just before the operation. The story starts off with good intentions but soon goes off the rails as the film looses focus and credibility. Director Alexander Payne (“The Descendants” 2011) simply had trouble translating the far-fetched premise into an entertaining motion picture. He co-wrote the script with Jim Taylor.

The cast includes Matt Damon, Christoph Waltz, Hong Chau, Kristen Wiig, Jason Sudeikis, Laura Dern, Neil Patrick Harris, and Joaquim de Almeida, and Margo Martindale. “Downsizing” was a major box office bomb for Ad Hominem Enterprises, Gran Via Productions, and Paramount Pictures. It was filmed in Norway, Canada, and Los Angeles.
