Ghost in the Shell (2017)

My Review

Scarlett Johansson plays a severely damaged cyborg soldier whose brain is transplanted into another body in the science fiction movie “Ghost in the Shell.” The heavy drama commences when she realizes that she was kidnapped and her memories altered.

Director Rupert Sanders (“Snow White and the Huntsman” 2012) fell asleep at the helm of this project as it has a sluggish storyline, lack of character development, and a poorly written screenplay by Jamie Moss, William Wheeler, and Ehren Kruger. It was adapted from a 1989 Japanese comic book of the same name by Masamune Shiro.

The cast is headed by Scarlett Johansson as the cyborg soldier. Her performance is lackluster at best. Co-stars include Juliette Binoche, Chin Han, Takeshi Kitano, Michael Pitt, and Peter Ferdinando. The unwatchable “Ghost in the Shell” was a box office bomb for DreamWorks Pictures, Amblin Partners, Reliance Entertainment, and Paramount Pictures. It was filmed in New Zealand.
