My Review

Actor Andy Serkis certainly has the performance capture roles down to a science; his third time as the ape leader Caesar in “War for the Planet of the Apes” has drawn rave reviews for it sensitivity and depth. This sequel to “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” (2011) and “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” (2014) was a moderate success at the box office, at least partly due to lighter attendance in movie theaters this year.

Another factor could be the length of the picture with a running time of 140 minutes. The story was a bit sluggish, from the mediocre screenplay by Mark Bomback and Matt Reeves, who also directed the film. The cast includes Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, Judy Greer, Roger Cross, Karin Konoval, Chad Rook, and Amiah Miller. “War for the Planet of the Apes” was a box office success for producer Peter Chernin and 20th Century Fox. It was filmed in British Columbia, and received one Academy Award nod for Best Visual Effects. A sequel called “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” was released in 2024.
