My Review

“Blade Runner 2049” is the story of K, a bioengineered human replicant working as an LAPD blade runner. He uncovers something which no one thought could happen – a replicant who gave birth. Director Denis Villeneuve (“Sicario” 2015) and screenwriters Hampton Fancher and Michael Green put together a mediocre sequel to 1982’s “Blade Runner.” The film suffers from a lack of focused direction and lackluster writing, with superior special effects.

The cast includes Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, Harrison Ford, Edward James Olmos, Jared Leto, Ana de Armas, Dave Bautista, Lennie James, Carla Juri, Sylvia Hoeks, and Mackenzie Davis. Boring “Blade Runner 2049” was a flop at the box office for Columbia Pictures, Scott Free Entertainment, Bud Yorkin Productions, Alcon Entertainment, Sony Pictures Releasing, and Warner Bros. Pictures.

It was nominated for five Academy Awards, winning two – Best Cinematography (Roger Deakins) and Best Visual Effects. Non-winners include Best Production Design, Best Sound Editing, and Best Sound Mixing. It was filmed in Hungary, Iceland, Spain, and Mexico.
