My Review

“The Greatest Showman” is a musical drama about the life of Phineas Taylor Barnum (1810-1891) and his Barnum and Bailey Circus, which was in business 1871-2017. Director Michael Gracey instilled the project with good production values, interesting performances, upbeat musical numbers, and a lucid screenplay by Jenny Bicks and Bill Condon.

Hugh Jackman delivers an energetic performance in the title role, with support from Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Eric Anderson, and Gayle Rankin as Queen Victoria. “The Greatest Showman” was a big hit at the box office for Chernin Entertainment, Laurence Mark Productions, and 20th Century Fox. It received one Oscar nod for Best Original Song (“This Is Me” Benj Pasak and Justin Paul), and was filmed in New York City.
