My Review

The last day in the life of actor Herve Villechaize is vividly depicted in “My Dinner with Herve.” Impressive performances by Peter Dinklage as Villechaize and Jamie Dornan as journalist Danny Tate transform this made-for-television movie from a mere celebrity biopic to a great film. Tight direction by Sacha Gervasi (“Hitchcock” 2012) helped out; he co-wrote the screenplay with Sean Macaulay.

The supporting cast includes Andy Garcia as Ricardo Montalban, David Strathairn as Herve’s agent, Oona Chaplin as Tate’s girl friend, Wallace Langham as Aaron Spelling, Mark Povinelli as Billy Barty, Helena Mattsson as Britt Ekland, Michael Elwyn as Gore Vidal, Robert Curtis Brown as Merv Griffin, and Mark Umbers as Roger Moore. The watchable “My Dinner with Herve” was produced by HBO Films and initially aired on HBO in October, 2018.
