My Review

“Stan & Ollie” is a comedy-drama biography film giving viewers a glimpse into the friendship of movie stars Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. It follows them in a 1953 music hall tour of Britain and Ireland, which was their final collaboration. Director Jon S. Baird and screenwriter put together a classy tribute to one of filmdom’s most popular comedy duos with good writing, excellent production values, and memorable performances.

Steve Coogan as Stanley Laurel and John C. Reilly as Oliver Hardy certainly capture the personas of the pair. Co-stars include Nina Arianda as Mrs. Laurel, Shirley Henderson as Mrs. Hardy, and Danny Huston as Hal Roach. The enjoyable “Stan & Ollie” was a modest success in theatrical release for BBC Films, Entertainment One, and Sony Pictures Classics. It was filmed in England.
