My Review

“BlacKkKlansman” is director Spike Lee’s movie about an African-American’s effort to infiltrate the local Ku Klux Klan in the 1970’s. He supervised a white colleague who did the in-person meetings. Lee kept the 135 minute film running smoothly, and co-wrote the screenplay with Charles Wachtel, David Rabinowitz, and Kevin Willmott.

The cast delivered good performances, including John David Washington and Adam Driver in the lead roles. Co-stars include Topher Grace, Alec Baldwin, Paul Walter Hauser, Jordan Peele, Nicholas Turturro, Michael Buscemi (brother of Steve Buscemi), and Harry Belafonte. This would be Belafonte’s final film appearance in a career which began in films in 1953. The watchable “BlacKkKlansman” was a success at the box office for producer Spike Lee, 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks, and Universal Pictures.

It was nominated for six Academy Awards winning one for Best Adapted Screenplay. Non-winners include Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor (Driver), Best Film Editing, and Best Original Score (Terence Blanchard). “BlacKkKlansman” was filmed in Westchester County, New York.
