Red Sparrow (2018)

My Review

Jennifer Lawrence stars as a Russian spy working undercover in America in “Red Sparrow.” Director Francis Lawrence (“I Am Legend” 2007) and screenwriter Justin Haythe rely on gratuitous sex and violence, leaving a promising storyline and quality entertainment behind. It was adapted from the 2013 novel of the same name by Jason Matthews.

Lawrence and the supporting cast did their part in delivering good performances, including Charlotte Rampling, Mary-Louise Parker, Jeremy Irons, Ciaran Hinds, Joely Richardson, Joel Edgerton, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Bill Camp. The mediocre “Red Sparrow” was a moderate hit at the box office for producer Peter Chernin and 20th Century Fox. It was primarily filmed in Budapest, Hungary
