My Review

“Sicario: Day of the Soldado” follows CIA agent Matt Graver and assassin Alejandro Gillick as they attempt to spark a war between rival drug cartels by kidnapping a kingpin’s teenage daughter. Italian director Stefano Sollima put together this engrossing and stylish crime drama which is a “stand-alone spinoff” to “Sicario” (2015). It has a well written screenplay by Taylor Sheridan, and was filmed in New Mexico and Mexico City.

The cast includes Benicio de Toro as Gillick, Josh Brolin as Graver, Isabella Merced as Isabella, Catherine Keener as Graver’s boss at the CIA, Matthew Modine as the Secretary of Defense, Jeffrey Donovan as a CIA operative, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as a human trafficker, Shea Whigham as the head of a private military outfit, and Graham Beckel as a U. S. government bureaucrat. “Sicario: Day of the Soldado” was a modest success at the box office for Black Label Media, Thunder Road Pictures, Columbia Pictures, and Sony Pictures Releasing.
