Aladdin (2019)

My Review

“Aladdin” is a musical fantasy film following a homeless young man in Agrabah who uses a magic lamp and a wisecracking genie to win the heart of Princess Jasmine while battling the evil sorcerer Jafar. Director Guy Ritchie (“The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” 2015) put together a fair live-action version of Walt Disney’s 1992 animated classic, also called “Aladdin.” Ritchie co-wrote the script with John August.

The cast includes Will Smith as Genie, Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, Navid Negahban as the Sultan, Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders, and Alan Tudyk as the voice of Iago the parrot. “Aladdin” was the ninth highest grossing film of 2019 for Walt Disney Pictures, Rideback Productions, Walt Disney Studios, and The Walt Disney Company. It was filmed in England and Jordan. Will Smith was nominated for a Golden Raspberry Award for the Razzie Redeemer Award.
